Cancer Sucks Update #1

We can all agree, CANCER SUCKS.

It’s getting harder to find anyone whose life hasn’t been affected by cancer. In this particular instance, cancer has hit hard on the home of a single mom, business owner, and co-founder of Flags for Fort Snelling.

The week before Thanksgiving, Rocky Borchardt (age 37), was diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer. Taking the next five days to get personal and professional affairs in order, Rocky was able to ensure smooth running operations before heading in for her sudden and massive surgery. Her whole “oven” was removed, along with a few other moving parts the cancer cooties had already taken hold of. Unfortunately, the doctors weren’t able to get it all, and some super chemotherapy is scheduled to begin just as we ring in the 2019 New Year.

Rocky is a single mother of an incredible daughter, Emma (age 14), and also provides a home and support for her youngest brother, Conor (age 18). They both are excelling at Blaine High School, and are keeping busy while Rocky focuses on her fight. She is so thankful to be surrounded by a truly amazing support system to help take care of her family and home. Still, medical bills are mounting, along with the financial struggle that comes with having to take such large amounts of time away from work.

If you are able to donate to Rocky’s fight, every dollar will help ease the need while she focuses every ounce of energy into beating this aggressive disease. And she WILL beat it!

If you’d rather help by whipping up a delicious meal for the family, please check out the Meal Train below and sign-up at your convenience. These meals are dropped in a cooler at her front door, make a huge difference and give them great big smiles every time they dive in.

Every DOLLAR, every MEAL, and every POSITIVE NOTE makes a difference to Rocky and her family! Also, Rocky personally asks for any positive messages, vibes, and energy to keep being sent her way: She counts on that energy to keep her going every day.
